Painting with Fabric and Thread
108 N Signal St, Ojai, CA 93023
Reception: November 27, 2015 – 6-8pm
Four local fiber artists will be displaying their creations at OVA arts from Nov.10 thru Nov. 29, with a reception on Nov. 27th. “Fiber arts is not your gramma’s quilt or the apron you made in Home Ec.,” says Kyle Crowner, award-winning fiber artist. “Instead of using paint on canvas, we paint with fabric, yarn, and thread. These pieces are meant to be displayed on walls, just like any other painting.”
In addition to Crowner, Jean Manninen, Judy Dillin and Peggie Williamson will also show their fiber art at the OVA gallery, and they each have a unique style. Crowner strives for a minimalist approach. Manninen’s pieces are more ethnic and often evoke the feeling of being in nature. Dillin improvises and her quilts evolve as she works. She uses fabric and thread only and especially likes using bold, solid colors. Williamson also likes lots of color and combines yarn with fabric, other fibers and paper. All of their work will be for sale throughout the show.
The reception on Nov. 27th will be from 6-8 and include music and refreshments. It is a free event at OVA arts and everyone is invited. You’ll be able to meet the artists, and learn more about their work. OVA arts is located at 108 N. Signal and is open daily from 10-6. We look forward to seeing you there!
